The Winner: Cimarron, surely one of the worst films ever to be chosen for the Academy’s highest honor
The Other Nominees: East Lynne, The Front Page, Skippy, Trader Horn
My Choice: The Front Page, but just barely
over Skippy. Both films feature great performances from big casts,
but I’d give the edge to The Front Page for its skill with dialog
and for the moments when it shows a real fluency with camerawork.
